How a vet and a practice manager saved Gotham City - well, a dog anyway

Our caped crusaders, namely John Buxton and Helen Clifton, managed to make the press recently after a rather over-excited German Shepherd dog took a game of catch rather too seriously.

He decided to eliminate the chance of losing the ball by swallowing it.

Sadly for Chico, devotion to duty was un-rewarded when the ball got stuck in his throat. After an emergency car dash to the Haddington surgery, John and Helen managed to extract the ball under a general anaesthetic before Chico expired from suffocation.

John, Helen, Chico and owner Mike Shaw are all doing well.

The Ball is also recovering during an extended period of recuperation at the Haddington Surgery.
